EXP 3: Week 3: First Draft

  • In developing my design, I started off in setting out the outputs of the design to ensure that I didnt miss out any essential rooms. I used a guide from last year on dimensions.

  • From there I began to organise the rooms into the plan to get an overall idea of the structure.

  •  I organised the school to have an upper roof which acts as the bridge and then lower levels for the school to give shade in the weather. The far left shows the gallery and below the large rectangular piece will be like a food court. I dedicated the first floor down to be for the students, so it will consist of workshops, studios, classrooms.

  • The second level down will be dedicated for the teachers and the last level will be where the Deans office will be located (bottom level of the library) and a pathway to the elevator to reach the folly.

  • From here I began to customise each room specifically for its purpose.

In organising my rooms, I wanted to have a focus on sustainability and community. To achieve this, I used an abundance of glass for natural lighting. I also had the rooms organised to be located around a centre point. So most of the study rooms and offices are surrounding an open area for meetings and social points. This brings into attention the theory of attraction and repulsion of people concentration. Since this school is quite open and doesnt have completely surrounding walls, I've separated the rooms to have spaces between them. This is so that there is natural ventilation throughout the meeting points.
In an environment of such high temperatures and delicacy like the Indonesian environment, I wanted to respect the environment and restrict electricity usage to a minimum such as lights and air conditioners.
